KATANA sets Course record for Monohull.

KATANA sets COURSE RECORD !! around Santa Cruz Island Race.

Steady wind throughout the race provided the opportunity for Dr. Laura Schlessinger to be the first to finish the 67 nautical mile race from Santa Barbara to Ventura around Santa Cruz Island and to establish a new course record of 7 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds. The finish time for the new KCYD 47' yacht Katana was 51 minutes faster than the previous record set in 1998 by the yacht Jumping Jack Flash.You Tube Clip (right click link to open a separate window)

KATANA - Kernan Courouble 47'

Naval Architecture by Kernan Courouble Yacht Design 47' RACING SLOOP Constructed of carbon fiber pre-preg and nomex honeycomb core with a deck and an interior arrangment set-up for both inshore and offshore racing. A powerful rig and generous sail plan has already made this yacht a consistent performer. PURE Engineering provided full construction drawings of the composite hull structure, the engineering was carried out to the ISO 12215-5 Cat A standard, and ISAF plan approval was obtained from Germanischer Lloyd.

Launched March 7th 2011. Built by Westerly Marine, California

KATANA - Is Japanese for the the sword of the Samerai: in the name of Honor, Courage & Prerserverance.
